Almeria Airport provides special services to the disabled

From the time the EU law has came into effect during the month of July, 2008 concerning about the accessibility for the disabled people, almost over 27,000 people who are disabled have used the Almeria airport.

Special personnel are made available to meet the needs of the disabled at the airport as the EU law intends to make it trouble free for the disabled travelers to access and to use the airport.

AENA, which is the department in charge of all the airports present in Spain, has exceptionally paid attention to get rid of all the architectural barriers that resulting in the more problematic access.

Signposts have been arranged in all the airports at the meeting points, both inside and outside the building so that, the people can make easy communication with the personnel and can get the required assistance.

Above 10,290 passengers have been assisted alone in the past 12 months of which 43% of the people were not in a position to cover the long distances from the terminal to get to the plane. Another 25% of the passengers have faced trouble with the stairs, 9.6% were not capable to walk and were accompanied at all times and another 2% of them were blind.

A total of 76% of the disabled travelers at the airport were women with an average age of 69 and 7 out of 10 people were Spanish. It is recommended for the disabled passengers to ask for the special services 48 hours before they travel and when purchasing the ticket.

The top car rental dealers present at the airport offering car rental services are Hertz, Sixt, Europcar, Auto Europe and Avis.
